The cartridge proposal for the ICS (intermediate cartridge series) has now been renamed: 6.5×50 ICS. The new case design is 11.0 mm in diameter and 50 mm in length. Case capacity is a little higher now. Ballistics should be a little better, though not much different. Specs are now given in millimeters.
As before, these are preliminary specifications only. Do NOT use for ammo or firearms yet. More work needs to be done.
Revised 9 March 2017
11.0 base diameter
3.2 head length
body taper is 9.6 mils (11.0 to 10.67 mm)
shoulder diameter change is 10.67 to 7.43
shoulder angle: ~19.799 degrees (nominal 20 degrees)
19 degrees, 47 minutes, 55.95 seconds
alpha: 39 degrees, 35 minutes, 51.91 seconds
estimated case capacity: 47 grains of water
COAL is about the same as the 7.62×51 — 2.815 inches (71.5 mm)
COAL minus case length: 21.5 mm or 0.846 inches
That’s the room available for bullets with long noses. The case should accommodate almost any 6.5mm bullet, even heavy for caliber high BC projectiles.
